Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are nonfunctional; they do not encode functional proteins and are typically not expressed or biologically active. RPL13AP11 is one among several processed pseudogenes derived from the ribosomal protein L13a gene (RPL13A). The canonical RPL13A encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit, while RPL13AP11 itself serves no known biological role. Such pseudogenes are not considered therapeutic targets, do not interact with drugs, and are not implicated in disease except (rarely) as potential noncoding RNAs or genetic markers[1][3][5].
