Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 13 (RPL13AP13)

RPL13AP13 is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L13a (RPL13A) gene. Pseudogenes are sequences similar to functional genes but generally considered nonfunctional due to accumulated mutations that prevent expression of a functional protein. Genes encoding ribosomal proteins, such as RPL13A, typically have multiple processed pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome. RPL13AP13 itself does not produce a protein and is not a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or recognized disease-associated gene. Most available research and functional annotation pertain to the parent gene RPL13A, not to its pseudogenes. There are no known drugs, mechanisms of action, or biomarker status for RPL13AP13.
