Overview

Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 14 (RPL13AP14) is a non-coding pseudogene related to the RPL13A gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. While RPL13A is involved in protein synthesis and the repression of certain inflammatory mRNAs as part of the interferon-gamma-activated inhibitor of translation (GAIT) complex[7][3], RPL13AP14 does not encode a functional protein and is not considered a drug target or receptor of therapeutic interest[4][6]. Pseudogenes like RPL13AP14 are common in the genome and serve only as remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events.
