Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 22 (RPL13AP22) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 17. It originated as a retrocopy (processed pseudogene) of the parental RPL13A gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. Unlike the functional RPL13A gene, RPL13AP22 does not code for an active ribosomal protein and does not have an established biological function, role in disease, or therapeutic relevance. Its name and aliases reflect its pseudogene status and genomic lineage. Like many processed pseudogenes, it may be transcribed, but there is no evidence for a functional protein product or therapeutic utility.
