Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 25 (RPL13AP25) is a processed pseudogene of the functional ribosomal protein L13a gene (RPL13A). Pseudogenes such as RPL13AP25 lack the ability to encode functional proteins and are typically considered non-functional gene copies. They may be used as genomic markers but have no direct biological function, are not expressed as proteins, and have no established role as therapeutic targets or disease biomarkers[4][9]. The term "pseudogene" in its name indicates that this is not a gene that produces a functional ribosomal protein, but rather a non-functional or "dead" copy of such a gene[4][9]. The functional protein-coding gene is *RPL13A* (ribosomal protein L13a), which encodes a ribosomal protein component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit and participates in translational regulation and inflammation, but RPL13AP25 does *not* produce this protein[1][3][5][7]. There is no evidence supporting biological, therapeutic, or diagnostic relevance for RPL13AP25 itself[4][9]. Consequently, RPL13AP25 is a pseudogene and is not considered a canonical target for drug development, disease association, or functional studies. Its main relevance is in genomic studies as a processed genomic remnant of the functional RPL13A gene[4][9].
