Overview

Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 26 (RPL13AP26) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, derived from the parent gene RPL13A, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit[1]. Pseudogenes like RPL13AP26 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they typically arise through genome duplication or retrotransposition and contain disablements such as premature stop codons or frameshifts that prevent the production of functional proteins[7][10]. RPL13AP26 does not encode any protein product, has no known biological function, is not associated with any disease process, is not used as a biomarker, and is not a therapeutic target[1][4][8]. Alternative names for this locus include RPL13A_13_1745.
