Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 3 (RPL13AP3) is a processed pseudogene of the functional gene encoding ribosomal protein L13a. Pseudogenes are genetic elements that resemble protein-coding genes but typically lack the capacity to produce a functional protein, often due to disabling mutations or regulatory deficiencies. RPL13AP3 has high sequence similarity to RPL13A, a structural protein of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis and translational control; however, there is no evidence that RPL13AP3 is transcribed into a functional protein or plays any biological or disease-related role. It is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or receptor[3][4][7].
