RPL13AP5 (Ribosomal protein L13a pseudogene 5) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional RPL13A gene, which encodes ribosomal protein L13a, a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit. RPL13AP5 does not produce a functional protein and has no established biological function or clinical relevance. Like other pseudogenes, it originated from the duplication or retrotransposition of the parent gene and may be present as a non-coding genomic segment. It has been included in select gene expression and genome annotation databases, but is neither a therapeutic target nor a clinically actionable entity. If a structured or druggable molecular target (for example, RPL13A itself) is required, RPL13AP5 should be disregarded in favor of the canonical protein-encoding gene.
