Ribosomal protein L14 pseudogenes are non-functional genomic sequences that resemble the functional RPL14 gene, which codes for a component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis. These pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome due to gene duplication or retrotransposition events but do not code for active protein products. Occasionally, pseudogenes may play a regulatory role at the RNA level (e.g., as antisense RNAs or competing endogenous RNAs), but there is no evidence that ENSG00000224987 is such a functional pseudogene. As a pseudogene, it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other therapeutic target, nor is it linked to direct disease mechanisms or pharmacological interventions.
