Overview

Ribosomal protein L14 pseudogene 2 (RPL14P2) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It does not encode a functional protein and is considered a non-coding DNA segment that arose from the ribosomal protein L14 gene (RPL14) through retrotransposition events. Pseudogenes like RPL14P2 often share high sequence similarity with their parent ribosomal protein genes but lack protein-coding capacity and are typically not expressed or functional. There is no evidence that RPL14P2 serves as a therapeutic target, is involved in cellular processes, or is associated with human disease. RPL14P2 is categorized as a "processed pseudogene," meaning it originated from reverse transcription of mRNA and integration back into the genome, explaining its close similarity to the functional RPL14 gene but lack of functional coding capability. RPL14 itself encodes a structural constituent of the ribosome, but RPL14P2 has no known role in ribosome function, cell cycle, apoptosis, or disease. RPL14P2 is not a therapeutic target, does not encode protein, is not associated with drugs or disease, and has no known safety concerns or biomarker roles. It exists as a genomic artifact of ribosomal gene evolution.
