Overview

Ribosomal protein L14 pseudogene 3 (RPL14P3) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ancestral ribosomal protein L14 gene. It is located in the human genome and shares sequence homology with the functional RPL14 gene. Unlike the protein-coding gene RPL14, RPL14P3 does not encode a functional protein and is generally transcriptionally inactive. Pseudogenes such as RPL14P3 arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and while some pseudogenes may exhibit transcription or regulatory roles, most, including RPL14P3, are not involved in canonical cellular functions and are not considered therapeutic targets.

02

Mechanism of action

None (no known mechanism of action, as it is not an active biological target)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes do not have characterized biological functions as they do not produce active proteins and are usually transcriptionally inactive or non-functional)
04

Disease associations

None specific to RPL14P3; although its parent gene RPL14 is associated with ribosomal function and has disease associations, pseudogenes themselves generally do not play direct roles in disease
05

Safety considerations

None (no therapeutic interventions or safety concerns related to non-functional pseudogenes)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no drugs are known to interact with this pseudogene)
07

Biomarkers

None (not used as a biomarker for patient selection or efficacy monitoring)
