Overview

Ribosomal protein L15 pseudogene 11 is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L15 gene. Processed pseudogenes are DNA sequences that originated from the reverse transcription of mRNA and integration into the genome. These pseudogenes are typically non-functional, do not encode a protein, and have no role as therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or biomarkers. Such pseudogenes are common for ribosomal proteins, as the RPL15 gene itself has over 20 processed pseudogenes in the genome. The parent gene, ribosomal protein L15, is part of the large 60S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis, but RPL15P11 only shares sequence similarity; it does not have an active biological role. There is no evidence that ribosomal protein L15 pseudogene 11 is involved in disease or targeted by any drugs.
