Overview

Ribosomal protein L15 pseudogene 13 (RPL15P13) is a human pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding ribosomal protein L15 gene (RPL15)[6]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically nonfunctional; they do not encode functional proteins and do not perform known biological functions. RPL15P13 exists as a relic of gene duplication or retrotransposition and is dispersed in the human genome with no evidence of translation or physiological relevance[6]. The canonical functional gene, RPL15, encodes a component of the large ribosomal 60S subunit important in translation, but the RPL15P13 pseudogene itself neither produces protein nor is associated with therapeutic drug targeting or biomarker use[6][3][5].
