Ribosomal protein L15 pseudogene 9 (RPL15P9) is a non-coding processed pseudogene resulting from the reverse transcription and integration of mRNA from the functional ribosomal protein L15 gene (RPL15)[2][4]. Pseudogenes like RPL15P9 contain sequences highly similar to their parent gene but generally lack the ability to produce functional protein due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements needed for expression[4][5]. There are thousands of ribosomal protein pseudogenes distributed throughout the human genome, many arising through retrotransposition events[4]. RPL15P9 does not code for a functional ribosomal protein and does not act as a therapeutic target or disease marker. Some ribosomal pseudogenes, if transcribed, may have minor regulatory roles, but no such role is established for RPL15P9[2]. In summary: RPL15P9 is a canonical pseudogene, nonfunctional in terms of protein coding and not considered a drug target or relevant disease marker. It is one of many ribosomal protein gene-derived pseudogenes present within the genome as a result of evolutionary genomic rearrangements[4][5][9].
