Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 11 (RPL17P11) is a processed pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the functional ribosomal protein L17 gene (RPL17) but, due to mutations or truncations, is presumed to be nonfunctional and does not produce a protein[1][2][4]. Pseudogenes like RPL17P11 do not have known biological activity, do not participate in cellular processes, and are not implicated in disease pathways or used as therapeutic drug targets. They exist as noncoding genomic DNA elements and are distinguished from protein-coding genes by the presence of disabling mutations and lack of transcriptional or translational activity[4][6]. RPL17P11 is not a true protein-coding gene, nor a receptor, enzyme, or any other classical druggable target. No drugs, disease associations, or biomarkers are attributed to this pseudogene. The “pseudogene” designation means its sequence is similar to the RPL17 gene but does not give rise to a functional ribosomal protein. Therefore, RPL17P11 has no protein-coding capacity, biological function, disease association, or role as a therapeutic target. Any presumed targeting, therapeutic relevance, or biomarker status would be scientifically incorrect[1][2][4][6].
