Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 17 (RPL17P17) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein L17 gene.[4][6] Pseudogenes are remnants of gene duplications or retrotranspositions: they may resemble their parent gene in sequence, but they do not produce functional protein due to disabling mutations, truncations, or loss of regulatory signals. RPL17P17 does not encode a ribosomal protein, is not involved in protein synthesis, and is not associated with known therapeutic or diagnostic applications. There is no evidence RPL17P17 functions as a disease marker or a target for drugs. The term “pseudogene” designates it as biologically inactive except under rare circumstances where some pseudogenes are transcribed (not established for RPL17P17)[4][6].
