Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 20 (RPL17P20) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome. It is derived from the ribosomal protein L17 gene, which encodes a component of the large 60S subunit of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis[1][5]. Unlike the functional RPL17 gene, RPL17P20 does not code for a protein and is generally considered biologically inactive. Pseudogenes like RPL17P20 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events; mutations or deletions render them non-functional. While some ribosomal pseudogenes may have regulatory potential under specific circumstances, there is no evidence supporting a pharmacological or diagnostic role for RPL17P20[1][4][7][8].
