RPL17P24 (ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 24) is a processed pseudogene derived from the parental ribosomal protein L17 gene (RPL17). Pseudogenes are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and, unlike their coding counterparts, do not encode a functional protein. The RPL17 gene codes for a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit, but RPL17P24 itself does not produce a functional protein and is generally considered biologically inactive with respect to translation or ribosomal function.
