Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 35 (RPL17P35) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the gene for ribosomal protein L17. Pseudogenes like RPL17P35 are non-functional gene copies, usually arising from retrotransposition or duplication events. While the parental RPL17 gene encodes a component of the ribosome 60S subunit, RPL17P35 itself does not produce a functional protein and has no known direct biological function, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. Most ribosomal protein pseudogenes exist as evolutionary remnants, with occasional reports of regulatory activity for some pseudogenes, but RPL17P35 is not among the few with demonstrated activity or biological impact.
