Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 40 is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L17 gene, found in the human genome. Unlike its parental gene RPL17, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis, RPL17P40 does not produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes like RPL17P40 are generally considered biologically inactive fragments or copies of genes, maintained through genomic evolution but lacking the capacity to contribute to ribosome structure or function. Consequently, this pseudogene is not a valid drug target nor implicated in any diseases as an active entity.
