Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 43 (RPL17P43) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, annotated based on sequence similarity to the ribosomal protein L17 gene (RPL17). Unlike the functional RPL17 gene (which codes for a component of the large subunit of cytoplasmic ribosomes, involved in protein synthesis), RPL17P43 does not produce a functional protein. It is one of multiple processed pseudogenes derived from the RPL17 gene, following the widespread phenomenon of ribosomal protein gene duplication and retrotransposition in the genome[1][4][10]. There is currently no evidence for any functional or pathological relevance of RPL17P43 in human biology.
