Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 46 (RPL17P46) is a processed, non-functional pseudogene in the human genome. It does not encode a protein and has no known functions, biological activity, or disease relevance by itself. Pseudogenes like RPL17P46 represent genetic copies of ribosomal protein genes, such as RPL17, that have accumulated disabling mutations and are not translated into functional protein. The existence of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes, including RPL17P46, reflects the extensive retrotransposition activity observed in vertebrate evolution, but there is no evidence that RPL17P46 is involved in cellular regulation or disease[9][11][1][6][10]. Direct activities or therapeutic relevance are absent.
