Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 48 (RPL17P48) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It shares sequence similarity with the functional ribosomal protein L17 (RPL17) gene, which encodes a component of the 60S large ribosomal subunit in eukaryotes. However, as a pseudogene, RPL17P48 does not encode a functional protein product and is not involved in ribosome function or protein synthesis. Like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, it is generally considered transcriptionally inactive and has no established biological or therapeutic role. There is no evidence RPL17P48 acts as a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with drug interactions, molecular targeting, or use as a biomarker. RPL17P48 is annotated as a human pseudogene. The locus shares high homology with coding RPL17, but mutations and/or truncations prevent it from producing a functional protein. While some pseudogenes may have regulatory roles (such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or affecting gene expression), there is currently no evidence that RPL17P48 has such a function. This gene is not listed as a target in therapeutic, diagnostic, or pharmacological databases, and there are no recognized drugs acting on it. The name, aliases, molecular class, and lack of function are supported by gene databases and functional annotation resources.
