Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 51 (RPL17P51) is classified as a *processed pseudogene* derived from the ribosomal protein L17 gene (RPL17), which encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit essential for cellular protein synthesis[3][6]. Unlike RPL17, RPL17P51 does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as RPL17P51 arise through genomic duplication or retrotransposition events and typically lack protein-coding capability due to disruptive mutations, deletions, or truncations[6][7]. The vast majority of ribosomal protein pseudogenes—including RPL17P51—are biologically inactive, neither expressed nor involved in cellular processes, nor do they play a role as therapeutic targets[3][6][7]. While rare exceptions exist where specific pseudogenes can modulate gene expression or contribute to disease, no such function, interaction, or disease association has been established for RPL17P51.
