Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 6 is a **processed pseudogene** of the ribosomal protein L17 gene (RPL17). Unlike functional genes, processed pseudogenes arise from the reverse transcription and genomic integration of mRNA from the parent gene and generally do not encode functional proteins due to accumulated mutations or truncations[7][9][10]. The functional counterpart, ribosomal protein L17, is a constituent of the 60S large ribosomal subunit, essential for protein synthesis. However, RPL17P6 itself does not participate in protein synthesis, nor is it implicated in human disease, biological pathways, or as a therapeutic target by current evidence. No drugs interact with RPL17P6, and it is not relevant as a biomarker or for therapeutic intervention[9][7]. Pseudogenes like RPL17P6 are studied primarily for their roles in genome evolution, or as possible regulators of gene expression, but no specific biological or disease function is attributed to RPL17P6 at this time.
