Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 7 (RPL17P7)

Overview

Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 7 is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional gene encoding ribosomal protein L17. Like most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPL17P7 arose via reverse transcription and integration of mRNA from the parent RPL17 gene into the genome, but it is generally nonfunctional and does not produce a protein. While the parent gene, ribosomal protein L17, is involved in the structure and function of the large ribosomal subunit, pseudogenes such as RPL17P7 are usually considered non-coding and lack direct biological activity. Pseudogenes can sometimes play regulatory roles, but no specific regulatory or pathological role is documented for RPL17P7.
