Overview

**Ribosomal protein L17 pseudogene 9 (RPL17P9)** is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the functional ribosomal protein L17 gene (RPL17)[2][3]. As with most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, it does not produce a functional protein product and is generally presumed to be nonfunctional due to mutations or truncation. There is no evidence of RPL17P9 having a biological, disease, or therapeutic role, nor is it known to interact with drugs or act as a biomarker[3][7]. Pseudogenes like RPL17P9 are prevalent across mammalian genomes due to retrotranspositional events but are usually considered functionally inactive[3].
