Ribosomal protein L18 pseudogene 11 (RPL18P11)

Ribosomal protein L18 pseudogene 11 (RPL18P11) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L18 gene. Like other pseudogenes, it contains sequence similarity to the parental gene but is disrupted by mutations or truncations that prevent production of a functional protein[7][13]. Processed pseudogenes arise from reverse transcription of mRNA and subsequent integration into the genome, lacking the intron-exon structure of the original gene[5][13]. While functional ribosomal protein L18 is a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and plays a role in protein synthesis, pseudogenes such as RPL18P11 are mostly non-coding; some may participate in gene regulation or RNA-mediated processes, but specific functional evidence for RPL18P11 is lacking[7][8][13].
