Overview

Ribosomal protein L18 pseudogene 2 (RPL18P2) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the ribosomal protein L18 gene. It is located on chromosome 1 (chr1:182,328,497-182,329,007, hg38). While the parent gene RPL18 codes for a structural protein of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in translation, RPL18P2 does not encode any functional protein due to its pseudogene status. Processed pseudogenes are typically DNA segments derived from reverse transcription events of mature mRNA, resulting in sequences that lack introns and functional regulatory elements. They are generally not transcribed or translated but may sometimes have regulatory effects at the RNA level in rare cases. RPL18P2 has no documented biological function or involvement in disease. In summary: RPL18P2 is a noncoding pseudogene, not a therapeutic target, not associated with disease or drug interactions, and its only notable features are its genomic location and origin as a processed ribosomal protein L18 pseudogene.

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes typically do not have direct protein-coding functions; they may, in rare cases, have regulatory roles such as influencing gene expression, but no such function is documented for RPL18P2)
03

Disease associations

Other (No documented direct role in diseases; unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes are generally not directly implicated in disease mechanisms. Some pseudogenes may act as regulators or be biomarkers, but there is no evidence for RPL18P2)
