Ribosomal protein L18a pseudogene 11 (RPL18AP11, ENSG00000212695) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L18a gene family in humans[2]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional due to mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements needed for expression. While most pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins, there is growing evidence that some transcribed pseudogenes can regulate the expression of their corresponding parent genes or related pathways by acting as competing endogenous RNAs or through other RNA-mediated mechanisms[4]. However, there is no specific evidence in the literature that RPL18AP11 is a therapeutic target, encodes an active protein, or directly participates in disease processes or drug interactions. The main biological importance of such pseudogenes is their potential involvement in gene regulation at the RNA level, though this is primarily established for a few well-studied pseudogenes and not specifically shown for RPL18AP11[2][4].
