Overview

Ribosomal protein L18a pseudogene 15 (RPL18AP15) is a retrocopy (a processed pseudogene formed via reverse transcription of mRNA) located on chromosome X (chrX:107076922-107077521) in the human genome[10]. It is derived from the parental RPL18A gene, but unlike the functional gene, RPL18AP15 does not encode a protein and is considered noncoding. Pseudogenes such as RPL18AP15 typically do not have biological activity, are not known therapeutic targets, and are not associated with any disease or drug interaction[7][10]. While the original RPL18A gene encodes a protein component of the cytoplasmic 60S ribosomal subunit that is essential for protein synthesis[1][3][5], its pseudogenes, including RPL18AP15, do not participate in these biological functions. Current scientific literature does not link RPL18AP15 with any known mechanism of action, biomarker utility, or safety concerns.
