Overview

Ribosomal protein L19 pseudogene 20 (RPL19P20) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein L19 (RPL19) gene. Like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPL19P20 does not code for a functional protein, contains sequence homology to RPL19, and is the result of genomic DNA duplication or retrotransposition. These pseudogenes are distributed throughout the genome and typically lack biological activity or regulatory function. Unlike the parent RPL19 gene, which is involved in ribosome function and has been implicated in cancer and other diseases, RPL19P20 has no known coding capacity, cellular role, or disease relevance. RPL19P20 is not a therapeutic target, does not produce a functional protein, and has no known physiological or pathological significance. Its main relevance is as a genomic feature reflecting the history of ribosomal protein gene retrotransposition.
