RPL19P4, or ribosomal protein L19 pseudogene 4, is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein L19 (RPL19) gene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but are generally non-coding due to mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons, and do not produce functional proteins. RPL19P4 is one of over 20 pseudogenes derived from the parent RPL19 gene, scattered across the genome. There is no evidence that RPL19P4 encodes a functional protein, participates in biological pathways, or acts as a receptor, enzyme, or other typical therapeutic target. Accordingly, it has no known biological functions, disease associations, interacting drugs, or role as a biomarker. RPL19P4 should not be confused with the functional RPL19 gene, which encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and is implicated in protein synthesis and, at the protein level (RPL19), has roles in cancer biology. Pseudogenes like RPL19P4 are often included in databases for completeness but are not considered drug targets because they do not produce functional protein products.
