Ribosomal protein L19 pseudogene 5 (RPL19P5) is a processed pseudogene that shares sequence homology with the functional ribosomal protein gene RPL19, which encodes a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit. Pseudogenes like RPL19P5 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events but generally lack functionality due to genetic lesions or the absence of regulatory elements, preventing the expression of functional protein. RPL19P5 does not encode an active protein, has no documented biological activity, and is not involved in disease or therapy.
