Ribosomal protein L19 pseudogene 9 (RPL19P9) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 5 (chr5:178055604-178056194, hg38) and derived from the ribosomal protein L19 gene[9]. It does not encode a functional protein, as typical for pseudogenes, but may have regulatory functions at the RNA level in certain contexts[8][12]. While ribosomal protein pseudogenes comprise a substantial portion of human pseudogenes, including more than 20 from RPL19[4], they are generally not considered therapeutic targets, druggable proteins, or direct biomarkers. However, emerging research indicates that some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression and play roles in disease via noncoding RNA mechanisms, such as acting as microRNA decoys or influencing RNA interference pathways[8].
