Overview

Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 108 (RPL21P108) is a processed pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional remnant of the ribosomal protein L21 gene family. While the parent gene RPL21 encodes a ribosomal protein involved in the 60S subunit of eukaryotic ribosomes, RPL21P108 is a defective copy that does not produce a functional protein product. Processed pseudogenes like RPL21P108 are common throughout the genome and typically result from reverse transcription and integration of mRNA transcripts. RPL21P108 has no known biological function, is not a therapeutic target, and is generally not of clinical or pharmacological interest[5][8].

02

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None (Pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins and thus lack direct biological function)
04

Disease associations

Other (RPL21P108 was once associated with inflammatory bowel disease in a database entry, but no validated causal or mechanistic role is established[5])
