Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 109 (RPL21P109) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. Pseudogenes are defunct genomic loci that resemble functional protein-coding genes but have lost the ability to encode functional proteins, often due to disruptive mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[6]. RPL21P109 shares high sequence similarity with the functional parental gene encoding ribosomal protein L21, a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[4][7][5]. Like other pseudogenes, RPL21P109 does not encode a functional protein, is not known to have biological or disease functions, and is not considered a drug target. As a processed pseudogene, RPL21P109 has no coding or regulatory functions verified in the literature[6]. Its functional parent, RPL21, contributes to ribosome assembly and function[3][5][7]. Therefore, RPL21P109 is not a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs, and is not used as a biomarker.
