RPL21P119, or "ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 119," is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein L21 family. It is one of many non-functional genomic copies (processed pseudogenes) of the RPL21 gene distributed throughout the genome. Unlike the protein-coding parent RPL21 gene, which encodes a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit, RPL21P119 does not encode a functional protein and is not expressed as a functional product. Pseudogenes generally lack known biological function and are not relevant as therapeutic targets or disease biomarkers. The parent gene RPL21 is involved in protein synthesis as part of the ribosomal machinery, but the pseudogene RPL21P119 has no such role.
