Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 16 (RPL21P16) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that originate from previously functional genes but have lost their ability to encode proteins due to mutations or deletions. RPL21P16 is one of several pseudogenes related to the ribosomal protein L21 gene (RPL21). It does not produce a functional ribosomal protein and is not therapeutically relevant. While the functional RPL21 gene encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL21P16 itself does not play an active role in cellular physiology or disease[3][6][7].
