Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 2 (RPL21P2) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the gene encoding ribosomal protein L21[4][6]. Unlike the functional RPL21 gene, which encodes a structural component of the ribosomal 60S subunit involved in protein synthesis, RPL21P2 does not produce a functional protein. The existence of multiple processed pseudogenes (including RPL21P2) is typical for ribosomal protein gene families[1][4][5][7]. RPL21P2 is catalogued in literature and gene databases by synonyms such as RPL21_65_1679 and bA352D3.1, but it is not a therapeutic target, does not encode a druggable protein product, and has no direct involvement in disease or drug interactions. While some pseudogenes can exert regulatory effects at the RNA level, there is no evidence that RPL21P2 has such a role[6]. RPL21P2 is not a protein-coding gene, not a therapeutic molecular target or receptor, and does not have the properties of a drug target. The parent gene (RPL21) is functionally important, but this pseudogene is not[4][5][7].
