Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 62 (RPL21P62) is a processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding ribosomal protein L21, a component of the 60S subunit of the ribosome. Pseudogenes are generally considered non-functional remnants of once-functional genes, typically lacking protein-coding capacity, and do not produce an active ribosomal protein product[1][3][5]. While there are over 80 ribosomal proteins, many of their genes have multiple pseudogenes dispersed in the genome—these do not fulfill the essential biological roles of their parent protein-coding genes[1][3][4].
