RPL21P63 (ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 63) belongs to a group of processed pseudogenes derived from the functional ribosomal protein L21 (RPL21) gene, which codes for a component of the large 60S subunit of the ribosome. Unlike protein-coding genes, RPL21P63 is not transcribed into a functional protein and is considered a genomically inactive/degenerated sequence. Housekeeping genes such as RPL21 commonly have many pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome[2][6]. RPL21P63 does not have an established biological function, does not interact with drugs, and is not recognized as a therapeutic target. Any known disease associations or cellular functions relate to the parent gene RPL21, and not its pseudogenes[1][3][5].
