Overview

Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 65 (RPL21P65) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L21 (RPL21) gene found in the human genome[3][6]. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but typically do not encode active proteins and are not transcribed in a way that produces functional molecules. The functional RPL21 gene encodes a structural component of the 60S subunit of eukaryotic ribosomes and is essential for protein synthesis[1][2][7]. However, RPL21P65, as a pseudogene, is not translated into a functional protein and has no verified biological, therapeutic, or pharmacological significance. Its existence reflects the evolutionary history of the RPL21 gene family and processed pseudogenes commonly found in the genome.
