ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 7 (RPL21P7)

Target
RPL21P7
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

RPL21P7 is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein L21 gene (RPL21). Pseudogenes like RPL21P7 lack the capacity to encode functional protein products due to accumulated mutations or lack of regulatory elements. While the parent gene, RPL21, codes for a structural constituent of the ribosome’s 60S large subunit and plays a critical role in protein synthesis[1][3], RPL21P7 itself does not encode a functional protein and has no known biological or therapeutic activity. According to the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee, RPL21P7 is an approved pseudogene locus, not a coding gene[2]. There is no evidence in the scientific literature to support a direct function, involvement in disease, clinical biomarker use, or druggability of RPL21P7.
