Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 72 (RPL21P72) is a non-functional, processed pseudogene in the human genome derived from the ribosomal protein L21 gene. Pseudogenes like RPL21P72 are DNA segments resembling known genes but are typically nonfunctional due to mutations, truncations, or disablements from their parent gene. They do not encode functional protein products, nor do they participate in normal cellular processes. The functional parent gene, ribosomal protein L21, is a component of the 60S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis, but RPL21P72 itself is not implicated in any therapeutic, diagnostic, or pharmacological context[2][3][7][8][10][12].
