Overview

Ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 77 (RPL21P77) is a "pseudogene"—a nonfunctional segment of DNA related by sequence similarity to the ribosomal protein L21 gene. While the functional RPL21 gene encodes a structural component of the large (60S) ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[5][7], RPL21P77 itself does not produce a functional protein and is not known to fulfill any biological or therapeutic role[3][4]. Pseudogenes like RPL21P77 are considered "genomic fossils" and generally do not have a direct function, though in some cases they can play regulatory roles. There is no evidence that RPL21P77 is a therapeutic target or associated with disease, drug interactions, or specific biological functions.
