RPL21P81 (ribosomal protein L21 pseudogene 81) is a *processed pseudogene* with sequence homology to the ribosomal protein L21 (RPL21), a structural protein of the 60S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[3][5][6][7]. Pseudogenes like RPL21P81 are typically non-coding, lack biological function, and do not participate in molecular pathways associated with the protein from which they are derived. Although processed pseudogenes can have regulatory effects in rare cases, there is no evidence to suggest RPL21P81 possesses such roles. The functional gene, RPL21, is involved in ribosome assembly and has been linked to certain hereditary diseases (e.g., hypotrichosis simplex) when mutated, but these characteristics do not apply to its pseudogenes[1][5][7].
