Ribosomal protein L22 pseudogene 13 (RPL22P13) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome. It is related in sequence to the ribosomal protein L22 gene (RPL22), which encodes a component of the 60S subunit of the ribosome and plays a role in protein synthesis[3][8][9]. However, RPL22P13 does *not* encode a functional protein and is not known to produce any RNA or protein product with biological or pharmacological function[5]. Pseudogenes such as RPL22P13 are considered non-functional remnants of protein-coding genes. There is no evidence that RPL22P13 acts as a therapeutic target or has a role in human disease, nor are there any drugs that interact with it. Its primary significance is genomic, as part of the large family of ribosomal pseudogenes spread throughout the human genome[5].\n\nNote:\n- RPL22P13 should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein L22 (RPL22), which has established roles in ribosome structure and function and may have indirect roles in certain cancers[1][4].\n- As a pseudogene, RPL22P13 is non-functional and **not** a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug target.\n- The inclusion of "pseudogene" in the name specifically denotes its non-coding, evolutionary remnant status.
