RPL23P4 is an annotated pseudogene homologous to ribosomal protein L23 but does not encode any functional protein. Human ribosomal protein L23 (RPL23) is a component of the large 60S ribosomal subunit and plays a role in ribosome structure and protein synthesis[1][4][6]. RPL23P4, however, is a processed pseudogene, meaning it is a genome segment derived from the parent RPL23 gene but lacking the ability to produce the corresponding protein[5][7]. Its dysregulated RNA expression has been associated with clinical features and prognosis in melanoma, where higher levels are correlated with better survival, likely as an indirect marker of tumor biology and immune infiltration patterns[2]. RPL23P4 is not a receptor, transporter, enzyme, or conventional drug target, and has no documented involvement in signal transduction or cellular regulation. No drugs are known to act on RPL23P4. RPL23P4 should not be treated as a molecular target or therapeutic receptor; it is a non-coding pseudogene with limited clinical biomarker relevance in oncology[5][7][2].
