Ribosomal protein L23 pseudogene 5 (RPL23P5) is a processed pseudogene related to the RPL23 gene, which encodes a structural component of the 60S ribosomal subunit but itself does not produce a functional protein[5]. Pseudogenes such as RPL23P5 are non-coding genomic elements and are not considered therapeutic targets. RPL23P5, also known as RPL23_3_328 or RPL23P5, has been investigated primarily as a differentially expressed RNA in cancers, particularly melanoma. Higher expression of a related pseudogene, RPL23AP53, has been associated with better survival in melanoma patients, possibly through links with cancer cell phenotypes and tumor immunology[2][3]. However, RPL23P5 itself does not encode a protein, is not a druggable target, and has no known interacting drugs or direct disease-related functions. As a pseudogene, it may serve as a biomarker in some contexts, but not as a molecular or therapeutic target.
